A month ago, Charlotte Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield ignited a controversy for supporting a 9/11 conspiracy theory. She shared a link to an article on 9/11 conspiracy theories on Facebook, writing: “I am still waiting for someone to produce pieces of the alleged plane that opened the doors for US citizens to lose all privacy rights.” she is on the defense for a tweet likening law enforcement officers to terrorists.
Now, she is facing an immense amount of backlash for her tweets in which she accused President Donald Trump of creating “homegrown terrorists” out of our nation’s police officers.
Back in March, LaWana Mayfield tweeted: “Being Black in America under #45 has created homegrown terrorist wearing blue uniforms.”

Her comment has been gaining criticism and media attention during National Police Week — and calls for her to step down are pouring in.
You should be ashamed of yourself for your baseless and reckless tweet equating police to terrorists. You are UNFIT to serve in any public office. The reckoning you speak of will be you getting thrown out.

Your statements and pages only prove your a racist person and shouldn't be fit to even sit at the back of a bus.
People like yourself keep racism alive and well.

Who will you call when your families' life is threatened, Lawanda?

#LawEnforcement endured 8 years of denigration under #BHO. You and your rhetoric of hate & intolerance will not deter them. Nearly every day, #officers make the ultimate sacrifice for ppl they don’t even know, including those, like you, who hate them. Hardly homegrown terrorists

This is what you were doing during the city council meeting?

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney called Mayfield’s words “offensive” and “hard to stomach,” adding, “When they go low, we go high. I might not be able to hold people accountable, but the community can.”
On Thursday, she expanded on her argument with a follow-up tweet alluding to police “corruption.”
“I have and continue to be one of the strongest supporters of law enforcement,” she tweeted, “but I will NOT turn a blind eye to corruption, assaults, and the killings of unarmed black & brown people. If you are offended by my comments and not the situation YOU need to re-evaluate.”

Unfortunately, it takes a race-baiting coward to try and widen the divide. One thing we might want to suggest to ALL colors is when law enforcement gives an order, OBEY it instead of escalating it and maybe these situations wouldn’t get out of control Sadly, this woman and her views pose a far greater threat to society than law enforcement does.
As I said… follow the laws and there won’t be a problem.
