Comedian and HBO’s Real Time host Bill Maher donated $1 million to the Senate Majority PAC in an effort to help get Democrats elected to the Senate. His move comes after he bashed liberal billionaires for being ‘cheap f****’ who did not contribute enough to the party. He even called out tech titans like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates for giving scant contributions in 2016.
J.B. Poersch, president of Senate Majority PAC, thanked Maher “for his generous donation.”
“Maher’s attention to our efforts this cycle underscores the building momentum and excitement for Democratic Senate candidates that we continue to see across the country. Every donation we receive is critical to help us ensure victory come Election Day,” Poersch added.
Schumer said in a statement, “I’m very appreciative of Bill’s generosity and urge all Americans to do everything they can to take back the Senate and restore our democracy.”
Others who have given to the Senate Majority PAC include a $2 million donation from actor Seth MacFarlane; $1 million from producer Haim Saban; $500,000 from Netflix’s Reed Hastings; and $250,000 from studio executive Jeffrey Katzenberg.
This is not Maher’s first time to donate a huge amount of money to the Democrats. Bill Maher famously donated $1 million to Barack Obama to defeat Mitt Romney, then more recently joked he’d gladly hand over the same amount for Romney to take over from Donald Trump.
I thought Rich guys buying the election was supposed to be a bad thing to the Democrats, especially white rich guys.
Nevermind, his donation won’t help. No blue wave coming.
